How To Take Care of A New Austin Tattoo

Just got a cool new Austin tattoo from Platinum Ink? Congratulations! You have made an investment in body art and making sure it stays looking awesome is up to you.
Taking care of your new Austin tattoo is not complicated, but it is something that needs to be done to make sure the healing process happens smoothly. Follow these tips and you and your tattoo will be friends forever.
13 things you need to do to take care of your new Austin tattoo
Keep it covered: When you left here, your tattoo artist covered your new tattoo with a bandage. We know you cannot wait to see it and show it off but hold your horses. The bandage should stay on for one to two hours.
Keep it clean: Once you take that bandage off, you will want to clean it. Wash your hands first and then gently wash your new tattoo with soap and slightly warm water. Rinse it with cool water, pat it dry – with a clean towel — and then apply a thin layer of either Recovery or Aquaphor. Do not use Neosporin or Vaseline.
Let it breathe: After you wash your tattoo, do not rebandage it – the circulating air will help it heal.
Rinse and repeat: Wash your tattoo in the above manner four to five times a day for at least a week.
Keep it moisturized: After 10 days or so, you can stop using the Recovery or Aquaphor and use lotion – unscented is best – regularly until the tattoo is completely healed.
Skip taking a dip: For the first couple of weeks after you get your tattoo, we recommend you avoid submerging the area in water. Taking a shower is fine, but this is probably the time to skip a dip in Barton Springs Pool.
Don’t pick it: This probably won’t come as a surprise, but picking at any scabs that develop or scratching them off can increase the risk of scarring or infection. Do want your momma told you and “Don’t Pick At It!”
Keep it out of the sun: No matter where it is, you’ll want to keep your new Austin tattoo out of the sunlight for two weeks.
Don’t tan it: Even once those two weeks have passed, you’ll want to skip serious tanning of the area for at least eight weeks.
Come back: We’d like to see you again in two to four weeks, just to check and make sure everything looks like it should.
Wait to touch it up: Most likely your tattoo looks awesome, but just in case we ask that you wait 30 days before having anything touched up. Don’t wait too long however, all touch ups need to be done within 90 days.
Stay in touch: We’re here to help. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
Plan for the long-term: Want to keep your tattoo looking great for years to come? You need to take care of your skin. Moisturize the area daily, avoid the sun and drink plenty of water so your skin stays hydrated.
